Questions and answers
How Roof-Able works, in plain words. Don’t see yours? Ask us.
Getting a price
How do I get an estimate?
Type your address and answer two quick questions about the roof. While we size and price it, a half-minute explainer shows what to expect. Then up to 3 local roofers come up side by side, each with good, better and best prices.
Do I have to give my phone number?
Not to see prices, and not even after. When you choose a roofer you decide: have them call you, or call them yourself. Only “call me” needs your number, and only that one roofer gets it.
Will roofers call me to sell me?
No. Until you pick one, you haven’t given anyone anything to follow up with. Nobody comes to the house to pitch you, and nobody calls.
What if I don’t know how big my roof is?
Most people don’t, and you don’t need to. We measure the roof from above: its size in squares, its pitch, and a rough ridge length. Where we can’t, we work it out from the size of the house and say so. The roofer you pick confirms it from their own measurement report before the price is final.
Why up to 3 estimates?
Only roofers that do your kind of roof, cover your area, and have a current license (for roofing work) and insurance on file can give an estimate. Sometimes that’s one or two; it’s never more than three.
Why are the prices so different?
Because the roofs are different. One roofer may use a heavier shingle, more ice and water barrier, new flashing instead of reused, or a longer workmanship warranty. That’s why every estimate shows the product, the warranty and the scope next to the price.
Comparing the estimates
What am I comparing?
For each roofer: who owns the company, their prices, the shingle brand and line, every material that goes on the roof, their own workmanship warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty, what’s included and not included, what rotten wood costs if they find it, their Google rating, and their license and insurance.
What are good, better and best?
Most roofers offer the same roof at up to three levels. Each has its own price, and a Details button beside it that opens to show exactly what changes: the shingle, the underlayment, the flashing, the warranty.
How do I check a roofer’s license?
Every card shows the roofer’s Oregon CCB license number and a link to the Construction Contractors Board’s own license search, so you can look it up yourself.
Where do the prices come from?
Roof-Able worked with each roofer to build a pricing path that matches their own bids as closely as we both could. The price you see is that roofer’s price.
Where do the Google ratings come from?
From each roofer’s Google Business listing. The rating on the card links to the listing so you can read the reviews yourself.
Roof rejuvenation
What is roof rejuvenation?
An oil made for asphalt shingles is sprayed onto the roof, to the manufacturer’s specification. It costs a fraction of a new roof. It is not a repair, and it comes with no promise about how long the roof will last.
Does my roof qualify?
It’s for asphalt shingle roofs that are still sound: no leaks, no missing shingles, on a one- or two-story home, not too steep to work on safely. Answer a few questions and you’ll know, with a price if it does.
What if it doesn’t qualify?
We tell you why, and you can compare roof replacement estimates for the same house without typing it all in again.
Choosing a roofer, and paying
What happens when I choose a roofer?
You pick how to connect. Have them call you, and they call within one business day to confirm the price. Or call them yourself: we show you their number and a reference to mention. Either way no other roofer is told, and you can change to a different roofer until a price is confirmed.
Is the price final?
No: what you see online is an estimate. It’s final once your roofer has confirmed the roof size from their measurement report. If the roof is the size and shape you described, the price holds. If it isn’t, they tell you the new price before any work starts, and you can say no at no charge.
What about rotten wood under the old roof?
Nobody can see the deck until the old roof is off. Each estimate lists what that roofer charges per sheet of plywood if they find rot, so you know the number before you choose.
Who do I pay?
You pay the roofer you chose. Your agreement for the work is with them.
Trust
Who does the work?
The roofer you chose. Roof-Able works to list only quality companies. People and situations change, and when they do, we remove companies that don’t perform.
How do you check the roofers?
We read each roofer’s Oregon CCB license and insurance documents ourselves and keep every expiration date on file. If anything lapses, that roofer stops getting new jobs until the renewal is checked. A roof rejuvenation company isn’t doing licensed roofing work, so it is shown on its insurance.
What if I’m not happy with the work?
Tell us and the roofer as soon as you can. The fastest way is the “Something’s not right?” button on your job page (the link is in every email about your job), or reply to that email thread. Complaints go straight to a person.
Other
Where do you work?
In Oregon for now, and we keep growing into new areas.
What if you don’t offer the job I need?
We’ll refer you to our sister company, Willamette Pros. You’ll get a detailed quote, and someone from a skilled local company will be in touch.
